J-Music: UBU (うブ) – Mrs.GREEN APPLE (JP→ENG Lyrics Translation)

There’s no intention behind
that clouded smile.
I’ve already made my preparations.

With an ambiguous expression and gestures to match,
a sigh was elicited.
Why is it that I’m able to understand it all?
You are your own prisoner.

You’re distant every time.

If you wanna be satisfied – irony
You can’t be so disagreeable
First and foremost
You say these things and then caress me
and the complexity of it all irritates me.
Leaves me breathless.
Through wandering aimlessly
I found I’m done wandering.
The beginning is always the same. The beginning is always the same.

Being wrapped up and hidden in love
is sure to get your temperature rising, huh?
There’s no use for a child
seeking a nest like a bird.
“The beginning is always the same.” “The beginning is always the same.”

Boggy thinking time.

Defending this is an irony.
I try not to let it collapse.
Because it’s everyone’s fault
observe their attitude after informing them of it.
Friendship is a fallback.
My heart is suffering.
We just keep going around in circles,
so this is our end.

If you wanna be satisfied, lovely,
don’t just be what’s on the surface.
I told you it was an irony.

The complexity of it all irritates me.
Leaves me breathless.
I wander on aimlessly
and I keep wandering.
To protect you is an irony.
We just keep going around in circles,
so this is our end.

The beginning is always the same.
Talk about the beginning.
The beginning is always the same.
We’ve reached the beginning again.
The beginning is always the same.
Talk about the beginning.
The beginning is always the same.
We’ve reached the beginning again.

This was a tricky one! I’m not totally confident about it but I tried my best. It was loaded with idioms… The biggest one being the title itself. I’ve mostly translated Ubu as “beginning” but it translates to something like the “initial state” of things. In this case, the initial state is a relationship that Motoki finds toxic but unable to allow himself to leave because he feels responsible for the person he’s with. I also had a bit of trouble with the idiom “nobari kubari”, and the meaning I’ve given it is “wandering aimlessly” or “going in circles”.
