The last year of 2019 there was big to-do in Japan’s news over the shady dealings of conglomerate Yoshimoto Kogyo. Talents were attending the meetings of criminal organizations, and evidence of money laundering caused scandals. Yet among this malestrom there’s one person, Razor Ramon HG, has been announced to be leaving to the American state of Florida in April of 2020 parallel to Wrestlemania (during WM week) as a performer.
This announcement gave emotional rise to Japan’s professional wrestling fans, everyone’s voices loud with astonishment. Once active primarily in HUSTLE, Razor Ramon HG’s invitation to the world’s stage at this WM weekend event was by openly queer performer EFFY. (This part in brackets is your name on katakana! That’s basically a wrestling right of passage, right? Twitter display name material.) Working with GCW & FEST, this 29 year old performer is the quintessential queer wrestler.
On 4/4 in Tampa, Florida, just before noon at 11 am, EFFY will be holding his Big Gay Brunch (More katakana for you! ビッグ・ゲイ・ブランチ is Big Gay Brunch!) where Razor Ramon HG is a heavy and prominently displayed draw. EFFY & HG, both adjacent to the LGBTQ community (which relates to gender minority [that one’s the article talking not me this time]), will join wrestling, drag queens, live music and the like in the event’s booking. On a stage where last year nearly 40 events took place, somewhere in the ballpark of 10K wrestling fans on the other side of WM of all colours and creeds have taken special notice of the message of this event.
LGBTQ, with L meaning lesbian, G meaning Gay, B meaning bisexual, T meaning transgender and Q being the first letter for those questioning their place within the community. Likewise, Q may also stand for Queer, which is a term oft used to encompass the entire community. Whether those within the community choose to clearly define themselves as Queer or elect the use of Questioning is varied person to person.
